How Does Titanium 3D Printing Work?

First, using Computer Aided Design, 3D computer models of the required object are created. These are uploaded into the titanium printer. Using the models as building instructions, the printer adds metal powder layers, each time fusing parts of the layer into a solid metal using a high-power laser. In this way, complete 3D objects are constructed by the printer.

At FMI we do not consider titanium 3D printing as a standalone process but as an integral part of our production process. This makes FMI unique as we not only have the facilities for additive manufacturing but also the necessary skills and CNC machinery to transfer powder in to a fully finished product, all 'under one roof”.

Design for Additive Manufacturing

Design for Additive Manufacturing

FMI has been industrially producing titanium 3D printed parts for nine years and as a result we have mastered design for Additive Manufacturing to ensure successful builds, each time. We optimise every support structure design to increase part accuracy and production speed, while reducing lead times and costs.

Our 'make-ability'

Our 'make-ability'

The key factors in our manufacturing success are makeability, keeping costs to a minimum, ensuring on-time delivery and close co-operation between our engineers and production teams. FMI is a one-stop shop for our customers, our lines of communication can be kept short and changes can be made quickly and easily.

By combining advanced technologies with our regular production processes, we are a valuable partner for prototypes, first series and volume production.

Quality assurance & Control

Quality assurance & Control

FMI Additive is an ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 certified company and also FDA compliant. As required by these standards, all processes are validated. The management systems in place are specifically built to ensure quality consistency.

Our FMI competences

FMI Additive is one of the leading additive manufacturing companies to have a full-blown, commercial titanium 3D printing facility. It has become an integral part of our production process. At our state-of-the-art facility in Tilburg, we run series production titanium 3D printing on a commercial scale. FMI has EBM and SLM machines, which are both powder bed fusion technologies. Having both technologies in-house gives us the flexibility to use the technology best suited to our customers' application.
